Calvin Johnson officially announces his retirement
The Lions did not appear willing to spend that much on a receiver before Johnson’s retirement. He now holds several records, including the fastest to amass 10,000 receiving yards, and most receiving yards in a single season (2012).

“His approach to the game, I think, is outstanding”.
Now that’s how you say goodbye to a star player-and a close friend.
Johnson, though, refused to ever rant about how the team failed to surround him with enough good players and coaches to win when it mattered most.
His records with the Lions include most career receptions (731), career receiving yards (11,619), receiving yards in a season (1,964), receiving yards in a game (329), career receiving touchdowns (83) and receiving touchdowns in a season (16).
The Lions also addressed the defensive side by re-signing starting defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to a two-year deal, NFL.com reported.
“From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for everything”. Tech’s Calvin Johnson (21) takes off downfield after a pass reception in the second quarter of the Georgia Tech vs Virginia football game Thursday night at Bobby Dodd Stadium 9/21/06. According to NFL.com, before this week, there was a heated discussion as to whether Calvin Johnson should retire for the sake of the team. The 6-2, 195-pound receiver is coming off his best season with 65 catches, 816 yards and four touchdowns. Even with his physical tools, Johnson’s contract weighed heavy on the Lions’ salary cap situation, leading to rumors that he could be cut or traded to a team that needed a top-flight wide receiver (like the New England Patriots).
“I am excited to see what the rest of his life brings and I know he will be successful in any endeavor he puts his mind and heart in to”. Johnson’s decision comes after he initially talked about retiring just days after the end of the 2015 regular season.

Over five National Football League seasons since he was the Cowboys’ third-round draft pick in 2011 out of Oklahoma, Murray has 5,228 rushing yards on 1,127 carries (4.6-yard average) with 34 touchdowns on the ground.
