Cam Newton and Peyton Manning were high school studs, too

The wide receiver had something to prove to his former team and his big plays against the Cardinals helped propel the Panthers to the Super Bowl.

Last week the fast-starting Panthers raced to a 31-0 lead by intermission against the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round before holding on for a 31-24 victory.

“Probably to me the play of the game was the missed throw that Cam Newton made to Ed Dickson going up the seam”, coach Ron Rivera said. Cam will win the MVP award this season after the numbers he put up. Denver, Colorado. So that means there should be more Broncos fans at the Bowl than Panthers fans.

At the top of the Carolina chain is Newton, who even brings thrills to a staunch member of the Panthers defensive line. Though Carolina’s star-studded defense stole the show by forcing PFF’s No. 2 quarterback Carson Palmer into six combined turnovers, Newton held his own on the offensive side of the ball with 335 passing yards and four combined touchdowns (two passing and two on the ground).

The Panthers have a triple-threat offense where Newton can run, Newton can pass, or Newton can hand off to running back Jonathan Stewart. Manning completed 17 of 32 passes for 176 yards and two scores, both to tight end Owen Daniels, against New England. “When you’re out there competing and playing, and coaches are asking you to give them every single thing that you’ve got, it’s easy to give unbelievable effort to a person who cares about you”. Denver has continued to win despite their offense. The 49 points were the most for an NFC title game victor.

Carolina led the National Football League in takeaways in the 2015 season, and they’ve forced nine turnovers in two playoff games, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns by linebacker Luke Kuechly.

The Cardinals had taken Carolina’s early haymakers.

Richardson always stressed that from the players to the front office, Carolina wins as one.

Teams wearing white have won 10 of the past 11 Super Bowls.

Davis’ teammates praised his toughness and said it’s hard to imagine anyone trying to tell him he couldn’t play in his first Super Bowl after spending his entire career trying to reach this pinnacle.
