Cam Newton defends himself for not diving on fumble
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton defended how he handled his postgame press conference after Super Bowl 50 on Tuesday.

Well, would you believe that earlier today, when players were cleaning out their lockers, Newton agreed with those that have called his reaction the behavior of a sore loser. Who likes to lose?
So maybe that’s why he’s not joining the chorus criticizing Panthers quarterback Cam Newton for leaving his press conference abruptly Sunday night.
“We’ve got a special relationship”, Miller said, “and I’m right here 24/7 for him”. “The truth of the matter is that I still don’t want to talk to the media”. I’m human. I’ve never once said that I was ideal. I have never not one time in my life seen a player do that, especially a quarterback. Newton said his post-game actions were a result of losing a very emotional game.
“I was just focused on whether they were going for two, and knew the defense had to step up and make some stops.”
Thoughts on his comments?
We’d already learned the reason behind Eli Manning’s blank Super Bowl stare, and now another mystery from Sunday’s game has been solved.
The Carolina Panthers were favored to win the Super Bowl after only losing one game in the regular season.
Newton said if he offended anyone, “that’s cool”. “This isn’t a popularity contest”. Denver turned the turnover into a touchdown and a 2-point conversion that stretched a six-point lead to 24-10 with 3:08 left the game. Most of us probably wouldn’t have handled the situation any better.
“I’ve got no more tears to cry”, he said.
Malcolm X once said, “Don’t be in such a hurry to condemn a person because he doesn’t do what you do, or think as you think”. “But that’s who he is, and I understand who the young man is for us”. I enjoy his passion for the game and his desire to give back. And I am my own person. Lastly, I see people complain about “class” and “morals” when their team loses, but the fact of the matter is a moral loss is still a loss in the record books.

“That’s who he is, he hates to lose, that’s the bottom line”, added Coach Rivera.
