Cam Newton explains why he named his son Chosen
This time, it was for his bounce-back performance which led the Panthers to a 38-10 win over the Buccaneers and a 15-1 record.

Newton said he probably won’t watch much of the NFC games between Seattle and Minnesota, and Green Bay and Washington.
Newton and his girlfriend, Kia Proctor, welcomed Chosen Sebastian Newton into the world on Christmas Eve.
Most people congratulated the former Auburn star on his family growing, but The Charlotte Observer posted two opinion letters shredding Newton for having a kid without being married.
It is wonderful that the birth of Cam Newton’s son by his girlfriend is a front-page story.
While the name “Chosen” will certainly bring pressures of its own, Newton’s point about not naming his son after himself makes a lot of sense.
“It’s something that I think he grows up and appreciates rather than… have a couple of names in his class of the same name as him when they’re doing morning roll call and they say his name”.
When Newton met with reporters Friday, someone made a decision to ask the question everyone has been wondering. “Just teasing. That was a layup”.

Cam followed up his announcement tweet to say that he’s “been quiet about this because I didn’t want to create a distraction for my team”. He admittedly isn’t a “big fan of football outside of football”.
