Cam Newton leads unbeaten Panthers to comeback win over Saints

He picked off Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler in the first quarter and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown in San Francisco’s 26-20 overtime victory against the Bears.

“We found our rhythm”, Brees said about the second-half spurt.

A holding penalty pushed the Panthers back before Newton’s pass to Ginn.

“It wasn’t pretty”, Newton told Erin Andrews after the game on the Fox Sports’ telecast. “Everybody wants to make this about me “dabbing” or MVP or sulking or having fun. We just haven’t gotten it done the last four weeks”.

Carolina had to claw back from a 14-point deficit at the start of the game and hold off the New Orleans Saints in a back-and-forth scrum.

As the cliche states, “It’s not how you start”.

_Ginn Jr.: The veteran receiver had a touchdown catch but dropped two others passes that would have been.

However Newton was in no mood to give Carolina’s unbeaten record up and he marched them down the field, aided by a fine fourth down catch by Greg Olsen to keep their drive alive. Vance said. “Now we’re ready for Cam to take us all the way”.

What’s so impressive about this particular throw is the fact Ginn was his initial read to the left of the formation.

The Saints cornerback had a rough day. “I mean, you’ve got to see perfection at its best and take advantage of it, right?”

Panthers defensive end Mario Addison (Tarrant, Troy), Bears cornerback Jacoby Glenn (Vigor), Broncos outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware (Auburn High, Troy), New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell (Carroll-Ozark) and Raiders center Rodney Hudson (B.C. Rain) were designated as inactive.

A Quarterback: Cam Newton threw five TD passes, including the game-winner to Jerricho Cotchery. They then completed their comeback in the final quarter, scoring another 13 points with the Lions offense shut down and only able to score another three to leave the final score at 27-23.

“It’s just things that we have to fix, we’re (this far) into the season and we can’t have breakdowns like that”, said Saints safety Jarius Byrd. The Panthers won a game Sunday they should have lost. Nelson caught two passes for 34 yards in the game.

The Panthers moved within 14-7 on Newton’s 12-yard flip to fullback Mike Tolbert, and they made it 14-13 when Newton ran the option and flipped a pitch to Stewart, who scored from 5 yards out. The Heisman Trophy victor also threw for three touchdowns and 268 yards.

He’s not going to sit back in the pocket and pick apart defenses like Tom Brady.

During the course of the season, the Auburn product completed 58.8 percent of his passes. They are right in front of Cam Newton. It’s a scary thought, but he’s getting better as the season progresses.

Brees has averaged 42 passing attempts over the past four games.

Newton, who seems to strengthen his case for Most Valuable Player consideration each week, was spectacular once again as he outdueled Drew Brees. The game is also airing as a live stream online. Carolina has a solid defense but if Drew Brees gets protection, he could put up 30-plus points in a hurry. Newton even was taken briefly to the Carolina locker room, where the NFL’s independent medical expert evaluated him for a possible concussion, but he did not miss a snap.

The Panthers knew they clinched the NFC South before Sunday’s kickoff at the Superdome.
