Doctors determined Newton did not suffer a concussion when he suffered helmet-to-helmet hits by the Broncos’ Brandon Marshall and Darian Stewart during Thursday’s loss.

With the game stopped for more than two minutes while officials sorted out offsetting penalties – Stewart’s roughing the passer flag was negated by an intentional grounding call against Newton – Anderson said there was no reason for Newton to be in a hurry to get up. ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that another source indicated to him that Marshall would likely face a standard fine as well.
Newton faced constant pressure from the Broncos defence during their 21-20 defeat in Denver, with the 2015 Most Valuable Player doing his level best not to complain about the standard of officiating. “One time I was in college, man, and I made a tackle, and I saw a player from Utah State run around the pile”.

The NFL and the NFL Players Association each said earlier in the week they are investigating the response by medical personnel during the game after Newton absorbed multiple hits to the head. “I feel as if there’s times I’ve been taking hits, they haven’t been called”.
The four hits on Newton, three of which weren’t flagged, sparked a debate about league safety, the viability of option quarterbacks in the NFL and the notion that Denver plays dirty. They have a job to do, like I said and mentioned after the game. “It’s really hard defensively when you have a quarterback who goes from a passer to a runner and you’re committed (as a defender) and that’s what both of these guys were”.

“The one call that I’m aware of that they missed when he was moving back to the offensive line, back to the line of scrimmage, and he pulled back up and went to (being) a passer”, National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell said on Monday of Marshall’s hit.
“When you’re rushing him, you know you’ve got to get to him before he passes the ball, rather than you worrying about him scrambling”.

“I disagree”, he said on Monday. It’s ultimately all about the technique that’s used, that’s coached. “We’re dwelling on something that I don’t want to dwell on”.
