Cam Newton rips down Packer fan’s banner

The banner, which read “North Carolina Cheeseheads” and had a Packers logo on it, belonged to Mike Dobs, a Wisconsin native who now lives in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The Panthers were home underdogs against the Green Bay Packers, but remained undefeated thanks to a huge half-time lead and 37-29 victory.

Six-year-old Colin Toler attended Sunday’s game between Carolina and the Green Bay Packers more than a month after his father, Ben Toler, had died.

As a result of Newton’s actions, and likely in retaliation for having to look at a blank space on his Man Room wall, Dobs went to police in the stadium and reported a theft. He likened it to selling a Whopper at McDonalds.

A representative of the Panthers called the Dobs family and said they are going to recreate the sign to give to the family. Dobs had permission from stadium officials, provided the banner wasn’t permanently affixed to the stadium. “We thought Cam was coming over to talk to us and the crowd around us”, Dobs said.

Dobs and his family were sitting above the tunnel where Panthers players enter and exit the field.

He is who he is and Panthers fans should love it.

“I would say James is our No. 1 back right now, going into Detroit”, McCarthy said prior to Wednesday’s practice.

But as a fan of the game, I have to give credit where it’s due.

The Panthers improved to 8-0 and are one of three teams left with a flawless record, including New England Patriots, which had a comfortable win against Washington.

“I just need to play football, do my thing and it will work itself out”, he added.

The banner was near the entrance where Newton and the Panthers run onto the field.

“I was passing. The sign was dangling”.

Q: What prompted a review of the current policy? “We need to do better”.

That hasn’t particularly bothered the Panthers, a team that has won back-to-back NFC South championships and still managed to mostly fly under the radar. The family says they even got approval to have the banner, which shows a map of NC and says “North Carolina Cheesehead” in the stands.
