Cam Newton’s father ‘grossly disturbed’ by officiating crew Thursday night

Nobody could attest to that better than Cam Newton.

That formula won the Broncos a Super Bowl in February, and it won them the first game of the 2016 season.

Newton stayed in after all four hits. No matter how big a player is, if he’s getting hit in the head blatantly, the flag should come out.

Right or wrong, the pounding the Broncos planned and delivered had an effect – not just the apparent headshots from Jared Crick, Brandon Marshall, Von Miller and Stewart, but consecutive, legal hits from Shaquil Barrett and DeMarcus Ware midway through the third quarter than had Newton talking to doctors and grabbing his right lower leg on the bench. I don’t want it to necessarily be because he’s a black quarterback. At 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, Newton is one of the NFL’s larger quarterbacks.

It certainly is for Gano, who may be the luckiest man in Charlotte from the standpoint that his miss became an afterthought in light of the vicious hits on Newton.

“The guy is a big. tight end, defensive end playing quarterback”. Newton is expected to practice when the Panthers return to the field on Wednesday, the coach said.

That’s no reason for the officials to continually look the other way. He passed each test and is expected to be at practice Wednesday when the Panthers begin on-field preparations for the game against the San Francisco 49ers on September 18.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton took several helmet to helmet hits in the team’s 21-20 loss to the Denver Broncos on opening night.

The next player might not be so lucky. And it works. Newton won’t be the last QB distracted by a desire to survive a game against the Broncos in one piece. While the targeting rule still has its share of hiccups, the replay system helps to weed out the calls that are blatantly wrong, an important safeguard when a foul comes with such stiff penalties.

The Providence (R.I.) Journal reported that the players did not travel with the team to Phoenix. Asked in his postgame interview whether he had gone through the concussion protocol, Newton said, “They asked me a couple of questions, but nothing too serious”. “But he’d been running the whole game, so I was unsure if he was a passer or if he was going to run”.

Finding a third party separate from teams and the league is hard because it brings up the same issue that already exists – would a third party who’s generally uninvolved in the game be willing to stop game play and potentially alter the outcome by creating a competitive disadvantage?

That could lead to a hefty fine.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Anderson took a screen pass 25 yards for the score that cut Carolina’s lead to 17-14. After a concussion spotter chose not to force Newton to the sideline, the reigning MVP got the Panthers into field goal range and gave them a chance to win the game. Maybe he was still groggy. During that time – while officials sorted out offsetting penalties – medical personnel spoke with Newton and requested to see video of the hit, according to a league source.
