Cam Newton’s five TD passes give Panthers something to dance about

In a career-high performance, Cam Newton threw for five touchdowns without throwing a pick, completing 21 of his 34 passes for 246 yards.

Since the start of the Super Bowl, six of the 15 teams to start 10-0 won the Super Bowl.

“They don’t give out trophies for the regular season”, Olsen said.

Carolina forced five turnovers that led to 27 points, had five sacks of Kirk Cousins, and established a franchise record by holding the Redskins to 14 yards rushing (on 12 carries). “A huge momentum swing for them, in a very close game we had the chance to take the lead”. We didn’t sit on them.

“I don’t know if it’s about the name or what…don’t single us out”.

The third of Newton’s touchdown passes on Sunday was the 100 of his career, making him the first player in National Football League history with at least 100 TD passes and 25 rushing touchdowns in his first five seasons. However, replays showed that Olsen ducked his head after touching the ball and by the time Culliver make the hit, he touched the head of Olsen with his own helmet and forearm.

Newton is completing just 57 percent of his passes (the Bills’ Tyrod Taylor is connecting on a league-best 71 percent, by comparison), but Newton also is having to work with one of the league’s thinnest receiving corps that includes Ted Ginn Jr., Devin Funchess and former Jet Jerricho Cotchery.

Carolina’s defence gave up a 56-yard TD pass when DeSean Jackson slipped coverage on the right sideline, but otherwise ripped this game away from the Redskins after a tight first quarter ended 14-14.

It allowed the Panthers to get some valuable rest, especially considering the short turnaround for Thursday’s game at the Dallas Cowboys.

“There’s a lot to look forward to in the season”, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. But the referee made a decision – made a call.

Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin III, right, celebrates with Andre Roberts, left, after Roberts’ kick return for a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers in the first half of an NFL football game in Charlotte, N.C., Sunday, November 22, 2015. Newton found Olsen on a crossing route for a 9-yard TD pass to push the lead to 28-14. Then, the Panthers sacked Cousins and recovered the fumble, setting up kicker Graham Gano for a 42-yard field goal to end the half.

BUCCANEERS 45, EAGLES 17: Jameis Winston tied a rookie record with five touchdown passes, and Doug Martin ran for 235 yards as Tampa Bay (5-5) rolled to a win at Philadelphia (4-6). They beat the Dolphins on Sunday, 24-14.

The Panthers next play the Dallas Cowboys (3-7) on Thanksgiving Day, and a shortened week means they must maximize their preparation time.

Denver’s Brock Osweiler threw for two touchdowns filling in for the injured Peyton Manning in the Broncos’ 17-15 win over the Chicago Bears – on his 25th birthday.

Ravens 16, Rams 13: In Baltimore, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco tore ligaments in his left knee during the closing seconds against St. Louis.

I’d be more inclined to believe someone like Greg Hardy or Michael Vick if they said that their past influenced a ref’s bias against them but saying the “Redskins” name is costing you calls? However, as the game wore on it became apparent that the Panthers were the superior team.

ATLANTA – The ol’ geezers came through for the Indianapolis Colts. Newton ranks second on the team in rushing with 382 yards and leads the team with six touchdown runs.
