Cam Newton was named the NFL’s 2015 MVP on Saturday, Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com reports.

He is the first quarterback in National Football League history to have 35 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in the same season. Newton, a known running threat, rushed for 636 yards with 10 touchdowns on 132 rushing attempts.
Newton lead the Carolina Panthers to a 15-1 regular season before charging through the playoffs. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown finished second with 10 first-place votes.
The Carolina Panthers’ All-Pro quarterback, who will lead his team in Sunday’s Super Bowl against Denver, received 48 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who regularly cover the league. “I would also like to thank every person who doubted me, because you made me better”. Newton ran away with the MVP trophy, receiving all but two votes.
With his team prepping for Sunday’s game, the 26-year old was not in attendance to receive his award at the NFL Honors show.

Defensive Rookie of the Year was cornerback Marcus Peters of the Kansas City Chiefs, while running back Todd Gurley of the Rams was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry, who missed last season to undergo treatment for cancer, was named Comeback Player of the Year.

San Francisco receiver Anquan Boldin received the Walter Payton NFL man of the year honor for his off-field work.
