Cambridge sign to glow green and gold in Humboldt Broncos tribute

The town of Allan, population about 700 and an hour’s drive from Humboldt, has watched kids grow up in this placid place dotted with century-old buildings along its main street. “I’m just thinking they’re going to swoop down from heaven and grab [the sticks] while we sleep”.

The idea came from the poppy stickers the Bandits wear during their games in the run-up to Remembrance Day every November. “Junior hockey circles are very, very small”.

“They are very well known across Canada for the program they run and the success they’ve had”, said Evans on the Broncos.

A Humboldt Broncos defenseman may never walk again, but one way or another he says he’s getting back on the ice.

Those bus rides are such a valued part of the one-of-a-kind experience that is junior hockey.

“I couldn’t imagine losing a best friend and a teammate”, Pawlick said. “We’ve talked probably twice a month, maybe more, so I’m always getting updates on how the team’s doing”. And the team cared for them, too. “I really feel for those families”.

“As a coach and a father, it makes you put a lot of things in perspective”.

Kenney is familiar with the highway. “I landed on our starting goalie and he had a concussion and a separated shoulder”.

“I didn’t really know what had happened so I looked further into it”. There are no more sleeper buses, so you had to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

At a vigil Sunday night, in the arena that brought so much joy over the years, there were tears and a struggle to understand.
