Cameron Maybin: Maybin homers, but Braves fall to Padres

The Atlanta Braves have posted a bad record of 0-7 in their last seven meetings with the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Perez lost his third straight start Tuesday despite allowing two runs and four hits at Tampa Bay in his first major-league complete game.

Norris singled in a run, and Will Venable followed with a two-run single to stake Rea to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

Rea was lifted after allowing A.J. Pierzynski’s RBI single with two outs in the sixth. The Braves defeated the Diamondbacks 2-1 in ten innings.

Craig Kimbrel, obtained from the Braves the day before the season started, pitched a shaky ninth for his 34th save. It was a nice bounceback effort by the 24-year-old Venezuelan rookie after surrendering 15 runs and 19 hits over his previous two outings.

Matt Kemp homered to right for San Diego in the fifth, his 14th. Rea struck out four, walked one and threw 93 pitches, including 56 for strikes.

This is notable because Gyorko has never played shortstop as a professional. He’s made 63 starts at second base this season. They will host the Atlanta Braves (53-64) of the NL East.

Padres: RHP James Shields (8-5, 3.89) is scheduled to start for the Padres. The Padres have scored 16 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in seven of their last 10 games.
