Camille Cosby: ‘No opinion’ on whether husband broke vows

Taken from the first of two depositions she has submitted to under court order, the transcript shed little light on a mounting scandal that has shattered the comedian’s career, even as Camille Cosby has stood steadfastly by her husband.

The plaintiffs in the defamation suit against the comedian have publicly accused Cosby of sexual misconduct and claim that he has publicly defamed them when he responded to their allegations. An excerpt of the deposition was released shortly after, giving a hint of the tense exchange.

However, when asked to give opinions regarding her husband’s integrity, she refused to answer.

One question Camille Cosby did answer was the question on whether or not her husband fathered Autumn Jackson with a woman named Shawn Thompson. One of those depositions was recently unsealed, and she wasn’t sharing much of any info.

Camille Cosby’s attorney, Monique Pressley, repeatedly reminded her client that, under Massachusetts’ marital disqualification rule, she did not have to answer any questions regarding private conversations she had with her husband.

Camille Cosby was, again, instructed not to answer. “We view [the questions] to be beyond the pale of what is permitted through the rulings of the court”, she said. “If you want to ask the witness about the substantive information which you claim numerous times this witness would have to bear, not her opinion of her husband…then you can ask those questions”, she said.

“We had sex and we had dinners and sex and rendezvous”, Bill Cosby said in the deposition on the Constand case.

Camille married Bill Cosby in 1964 and they have five children together.

Bill has a hearing May 24 in a criminal case in Pennsylvania for allegedly drugging and molesting Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee, in 2004.

MSNBC says that when she was asked about honesty and what it means, she answered: “I’m not going to expound on this”.

While Bill Cosby eventually admitted to having an affair with Thompson in the 1970s, Jackson was convicted in 1997 of attempting to extort money from the comedian after threatening to tell tabloids she was his daughter.

The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify people who say they’re victims of sexual abuse, but the women accusing Cosby have come forward to tell their stories.

An attorney handling a separate lawsuit against Bill Cosby revealed Friday that Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner provided sworn testimony Wednesday.
