Campaigning ends for phase II polls in Bengal

Answering another question about repeated remarks made by TMC’s district chief in Birbhum, Anubrata Mandal, threatening opposition parties undermining the Commission’s show-cause and censure, Mr. Zaidi announced that proper legal action will soon be initiated against such person.

He was again issued with a show cause notice today for violation of code and asked by the Commission to remain in his constituency till completion of voting tomorrow, sources said.

Slamming Banerjee for “trying to destroy” an independent institution like the EC, Modi said: “The country runs on laws and rules and if you want disobey them, then clarify before the people whether you have faith in democracy or not, whether you have faith in the country’s constitution or nor not”. Whether it’s the Congress or the TMC, both have similar lineage.

There have been reports that since the EC had addressed Benerjee as “Chief Minister, West Bengal” instead of Trinamool Congress leader, the state Chief Secretary responded.

The CM also alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was “showing off”.

“I heard that the Chief Secretary has given the reply. If this has happened, it’s wrong because the Election Commission had issued notice to Mamata Banerjee, the TMC leader not Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister”, he added. The poll commission’s letter was addressed to the chief minister and not her party, it said, adding, “So the Chief Secretary replying to a letter addressed to the Chief Minister is in order”. “Do not take the voter for granted”, Modi said.

“The way didi uses money, power and muscle to silence critics, Modi adopts the same tactics to bring down the Congress governments in various states”.

Attacking the TMC over Saradha scam and Narada News sting operation issues, Narendra Modi said, “West Bengal’s land is being used as a bomb factory”.

“You got five years to work for the people”.

Modi urged the people to punish those ruining the state. “Young people from the east are going to the west. Whether it is Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Bengal or the North-Eastern states, the story is the same everywhere”, he said.

“Youths go elsewhere to earn their living. You will come to know soon”, he said.
