Can Bernie Sanders Still Win? Victory Depends on Superdelegates

Even if Clinton ends up winning enough delegates for the nomination Tuesday, a Sanders victory in California will be a psychological blow for her campaign and gives Sanders more justification to stay in the race through to the convention. Supporters say they feel more confident and excited in the wake of the address – which could benefit Clinton, who has struggled to inspire enthusiasm throughout the drawn-out primary contest. Sanders won 61.6 percent of the vote in Minnesota’s March 1 contest to 38.4 percent for Clinton.

During this Friday’s interview for “Face the Nation”, Donald Trump said that Mrs. Clinton’s criticism was “ridiculous” and instead of delivering a discourse presenting her approach on foreign policy, she insisted on his policy.

Courtney Zambon, a delegate and student at UW-Green Bay, is a Clinton supporter.

“Americans aren’t just electing a president in November, we’re choosing our next commander-in-chief, a person we count on to answer questions of war and peace, life and death”, Clinton said. “She is bad-ass, and she is ready to lead”, US House Democrat Linda Sanchez boomed.

The superdelegate resolutions do not change that system, which is put in place by the national Democratic Party.

Democrats will also ask Wisconsin’s 10 current superdelegates to vote proportionally to April’s election results. One, state Rep. David Bowen, D-Milwaukee, supports Sanders, while the remaining three are uncommitted.

They join other state parties in Alaska, Hawaii, Vermont, Maine and Utah – asking the national party to get rid of superdelegates. In addition to California, Sanders also needs to win the superdelegates-party elites who can back whichever candidate they like, regardless of the popular. Right now, Clinton has a big lead with 1,769 delegates and 549 superdelegates, compared to Sanders’ 1,501 delegates and 46 superdelegates. Critics say that means they do not reflect the will of voters.

Speaking to reporters three days before the California primary, Sanders showed few signs of surrender, vowing to take his bid to the Philadelphia convention in July.

While Bernie Sanders has sworn to his loyal following of die-hard fans and voters that he will contest the Democratic nomination all the way through the convention, he has been very clear that the odds of clinching the Democratic nomination are not in his favor.

“And we will come together and be prepared to go to the convention in a unified way, to make our case, to leave the convention, to go into the general election to defeat Donald Trump”, Clinton said.

“Starting next Tuesday we’re on our way to breaking the highest and hardest glass ceiling”, she said. Many Americans greatly distrust either or both candidates.
