Can Sturridge lift Liverpool and more Premier League talking points

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini feels Sergio Aguero’s return will see his side improve ahead of Saturday’s clash with Liverpool at the Etihad stadium.

Losing out to Crystal Palace at Anfield in their last game before the break, Liverpool will want to bounce back immediately with a victory at the Etihad Stadium. City were dominated at their own ground and the Reds looked irresistible.

The Reds were 3-0 up after 32 minutes following Eliaquim Mangala’s own goal and fine efforts from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

“I’m not sure if it was the best (performance) but I rarely compare games”, Klopp said.

City will be without Vincent Kompany, who has suffered a fresh calf injury, while David Silva is still to recover after damaging his ankle playing for Spain last month.

“We have quality. We could have more goals, but 4-1 is ideal”.

“You can not win against a team like Manchester City without this”.

Operating as Liverpool’s two furthest forward players, Coutinho and Firmino were outstanding in closing down and regaining possession, causing the City defence no end of problems in the process.

Since hiring Jurgen Klopp after sacking Brendan Rodgers earlier in the 2015 Premier League season, Liverpool FC is looking for more wins and a better future. We played with big passion and that’s the most important thing for us. It’s important he can demonstrate this in every game, but I’m happy with the way he is progressing.

For the visitors, the headlines are again to do with the strikers, and whether former City man Daniel Sturridge will be named in Klopp’s squad.

“With results like this the boys will start to believe in themselves and that’s very important”, Klopp added following a result that moves his side to within six points of a Champions League berth.

Pellegrini said: “I always say Raheem is a very young player”. It’s so important and I hope we can do it.

“We tried to make changes and have some options to score”.

“When they played away in a lot of game they played with a lot of intensity but it is very hard to compare after two or three games in a new season”.

The decision to play Eliaquim Mangala backfired spectacularly
