Canada beats Russian Federation 5-2, advances to World Cup finals

Canada made it clear in the days leading up to the game: they don’t care who they play.

Part of Russia’s success at the tournament thus far has been the play of goaltender Sergei Bobrovski. When Russia emerged they played handsome hockey: they were artists woven together under the brutalism of Soviet Russia. It just wasn’t enough.

Pavel Datsyuk will be a game-time decision when Russian Federation faces Canada in the first World Cup of Hockey semifinal on Saturday night. “And that’s what we did”.

Russia’s first shot of the second period didn’t come until almost nine minutes had ticked by, but Nikita Kucherov made it count. He made a sprawling save on Marchand’s tip-in attempt early in the third period but was beaten cleanly when the Canadian forward fired a snapshot from the slot moments later.

“History has provided us with some great games, it’s exciting as a Canadian hockey player playing against Russian Federation”. And that proved to be true. He deftly dropped a pass to Marchand atop the left circle to assist on the winning goal 1:16 into the third. Four and a half minutes later Corey Perry retrieved a rebound and put it between his legs before he roofed it. It was only a matter of time, he told his team.

For two periods, Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky single-handedly kept his team in the hunt for the World Cup. As a effect of the Jets depth on the right side, we believe it is in both parties’ best interest to facilitate a mutually advantageous trade. “We now have an opportunity to have success, but we’re going to be measured on what happens next”. Kucherov’s goal tied the game at one 8:47 into the second. Crosby ran the game.

Kevin Cheveldayoff, the Jets’ executive vice president and general manager, acknowledged Overhardt’s statement and says that anything that is done in the near future will be what’s best for his club. “Everyone’s able to focus and control their own game”.

“I feel like they’re going to get their chances with the shots, the guys they have shooting the puck and the way they move it”, the Canadian captain said. “He always comes up big in the big games”.

The Russians then took the lead at 16:24 of the second, cycling in the Canada zone and producing a hard-working goal.

“Now we have a chance to compete for the real prize”, Babcock said.

It’s not like Canada wins every time. Artemi Panarin recorded the final Russian tally. It just looks that way.

Kurt Overhardt, the agent for the restricted free agent who was picked ninth overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, says that the 22-year-old defenceman will not be attending Winnipeg Jets training camp and has asked for a trade.

Saturday also marked the official death of the Canada-Russia rivalry on-ice.

Canada outshot Russian Federation 47-34 for the game.

“We know how they play because we play in Pittsburgh before in (pre-tournament game)”, Tarasenko said. But I still get excited about it.

“I think that was big”. Now, the top two teams from each pool advance and we breakdown the matchups ahead of elimination action this weekend.

Maybe all that is true.

There’s a feeling of invincibility right now for those on Team Canada.

“(Canada has) skill, talent, confidence and experience”, Ovechkin said. Our artists bury your artists. “Canada was like just more physical”.

It’s changed a lot. Our artists carry brushes and shovels, and they can use either one.
