A pair of Detroit Red Wings prospects played prominent roles in Canada’s 3-2 shootout victory over Switzerland Tuesday at the World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland.

Brayden Point also scored in the shootout for the Canadians. Blackwood sat out the first two games as part of his eight-game suspension incurred in the Ontario Hockey League. But Strome, from the corner, just put the puck toward the net and it was enough to fool Swiss goalie Joren van Pottelberghe.

A scoreless third period and five-minute session of four-on-four overtime set up Barzal’s and Point’s shootout heroics.

The victory saw Canada move clear into second place in the Group B standings behind unbeaten Sweden, who face Denmark tomorrow.

The Canadians seemed off their game, rattled at the fast, physical play displayed by the Swiss.
