Canada Post issues strike notice
The Canada post will have to put a hold on their services for a short while to continue the talk between the Crown Corporation and Canadian Union of Postal workers CUPW.

It has also been brought to the Union’s attention Canada Post has been utilizing some underhanded tactics with its customers.
CUPW national president Mike Palecek said the Crown corporation turned in a almost $100-million profit past year and appears to be on track for bigger profits in 2016, although Canada Post has not opened its books to the union.
CUPW responded to the action, and in a press release of their own said Canada Post was driving 50,000 employees out without pay.
Canada Post has already warned that the sluggish negotiations have affected mail volumes.
But in our world of e-payments and e-billing, what will be the impact? Canada Post and the CUPW have been in negotiations since December for its delivery and plant employees. Essentially, the mail service wants to switch new hires to a defined contribution plan, where payouts are not guaranteed.
Canada Post says the latest offer to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers in their ongoing labour dispute is to be considered final and has now issued a 72-hour lockout notice.
Palacek says Canada Post’s pension plan is sustainable and should be able to include future hires.
“This is brought to you by the men who wanted to take away home delivery”, said Palecek.
“I remember, it wasn’t too long ago, when they were saying the corporation would be losing $1-billion a year”.
Meanwhile, the union says it wants pay equity between its rural, mostly female mail carriers and the urban, mostly male carriers.
Any mail and parcels within the postal system during a work disruption will be secured and delivered as quickly as possible once operations resume.

But Ottawa has deemed Old Age Security, Canada Pension Plan, Working Income Tax Benefit and the Canada Child Benefit cheques “essential” – even during a labour disruption.
