Utility companies and local governments are starting to warn people about possible disruptions in mail service, should there be a strike or lockout at Canada Post.

“We deliver two out of every three parcels to Canadians that they order online”, said Canada Post spokesman Jon Hamilton.

“Any mail and parcels within the postal system during a work disruption will be secured and delivered as quickly as possible once operations resume”, the release says.

Dionne says he’s hopeful the Liberal government will work with CUPW and Canada post to update the organization.

Meanwhile, if there is a work disruption distribution of the Innisfail Province within the towns and communities of Innisfail, Markerville, Bowden and Penhold would not be affected by Canada Post.

“Rather than a fifth contract in a row of rollbacks, we feel it’s time we deserve a better future”, said Mary Dawson, past president of the CUPW’s Stratford branch. It is early days and most of our clients want us to continue to do what we do and have planned for a positive outcome – no strike or a short-lived one.

Farishta Zarify, owner of the eBay shop Off Runway Gown, also uses Canada Post to sell her luxury evening gowns, “because it is more cost-effective and there are different options for what I want to ship. I’m sure if the strike goes on for any length of time, they may reconsider but for now, we are working away and will adjust as needed when the time comes”.

“The union is still open to talks and Im hoping Canada Post is too, ” said Lilly.

While Canada Post is referring to any action as only a possibility at this point, they are warning customers to take precautions when it comes to mail delivery.

Manitoba Public Insurance also has a plan in place to get drivers licenses, claim information, and cheques to customers.

Contract negotiations are now underway. “It makes it more expensive for us and the customers, and we’d like to adjust to the realities of competitors like UPS and FedEx”.
