Canada’s De Grasse wins bronze, Bolt wins gold in 100 metres
It’s that much harder on the biggest stage, and Bolt now stands alone as the only man to win gold in the 100 in three Olympics. The whole Rio Olympic stadium gasped when he crossed the line and the time flashed up. “I hope we can keep the tradition going as long as possible”. I expected to go faster, but I’m happy that I won. You can hear a pin drop in a stadium filled with thousands of people. Part of what people enjoy about the fastest man on the planet is his charisma, and Usain knows it. Fast-forward 9.8 seconds and there he was, galloping around the bowl of the Olympic stadium to accept his well-earned appreciation from the crowd.

And while Bolt was saluted as hero, Gatlin was cast in the role of pantomime villain. Canadian Andre de Grasse, who is just 21 years old, won bronze in a time of 9.91sec.
MONTAGNE: And afterwards, what did the athletes have to say? He said the short turnaround between the semifinal and final sapped his strength, and Bolt agreed.
“Somebody said I can become immortal”, Bolt said after his 100 victory, according to CNN.
And while Bolt was celebrating with anyone he could find, Gatlin was parading the American flag around the track virtually alone. They had a little over an hour. So, that’s why the race was slow. Here he is at his press conference. If can get a good rest after 200m, there’s a possibility I could.
“It wasn’t flawless today, but I got it done and I’m pretty proud of what I’ve achieved”. Usain said about his slow start, “I just said, ‘Take your time and chip away.'” And that’s what he did. But they don’t know me. Bolt had drawn even. He broke off from one of his dozens of TV interviews to congratulate the 24-year-old South African.
With thirty meters left, as if somehow able to switch to a higher gear, Bolt accelerated to pull even with Gatlin, who was fighting valiantly to stay ahead of the oncoming Bolt.
The current star? That guy named Bolt. The cheering starts when he appears on the track. The boos from the Brazilian crowd were the latest ugly chapter in Gatlin’s saga.
“Back in the warm-up area, we all have respect for each other“. It was the beginning that he said “shocked” him. Gatlin has several more events, so the situation may continue. “We really only had 30 minutes to get ready for the finals”. Any moments of this past weekend worth noting? So that’s not a bad haul.
One more added, “I guarantee Bob Costas likes Wyclef’s version of “No Woman No Cry” more than Bob Marley’s version”.
