But the speech did not outline to what extent the government is willing to get involved – Trudeau has said in the past that he intends to pull fighter jets from the ISIS mission, focusing instead on training soldiers on the ground. The provinces and territories will also be involved in plans to develop a new Health Accord.

The policies were straight out of the Liberal platform, and in condensed, vague form.

The speech said the government would create a new “nation-to-nation relationship” with indigenous peoples, saying it was a path to economic growth.

The government promised to work with indigenous peoples to improve their lives, namely by implementing recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, launching an inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women and girls, and improving education for First Nations children.

The Liberals promised, however, that they will not bring back the national long-gun registry that the previous government scrapped.

The Liberals also promise to invest in clean technology, provide more support for companies seeking to export those technologies, and lead by example in their use.

Facilitate a more open and transparent government. “The trust Canadians have in public intuitions – including Parliament – has, at times, been compromised”.

The Liberals promised to repeal what it called “problematic” elements of the Conservatives’ controversial anti-terror legislation.

Trudeau’s speech did, however, make reference to his party’s plan to beef up gun control. She also expressed concern that there was no mention in the Speech of the fight against Islamic State terrorists. There is no mention of the agriculture sector, the auto sector, the forestry sector, the energy sector, none of them are present in the Speech from the Throne.

Asked if her party would vote for or against the Speech from the Throne, Ms. Ambrose replied: “We’re going to wait and see what the motion is next week, but as I said, it is very concerning that the Speech from the Throne has very little about the economy”.

Trudeau has said he will address a special meeting of chiefs on Tuesday that is being hosted by the Assembly of First Nations.

While a minority government could fall if its Speech from the Throne were defeated even immediately after an election, the Liberal majority guarantees the program will pass its first test.
