Canadian Press NewsAlert:Relatives of drowned Syrian boy land in Canada
Also on hand to welcome the family were schoolchildren holding signs that read “Welcome to Canada”. It was in Frankfurt that he first met his five-month-old son, Sherwan, who was alert and awake for his arrival in Canada.

“Thank you to the Canadian people”, Ms Kurdi said.
Mohammed Kurdi, his wife and their five children have come to Canada as refugees, sponsored by Mohammed’s sister Tima Kurdi, who has become a spokeswoman for people fleeing the war-torn nation.
Relatives of a Syrian boy whose lifeless body washed up on a Turkish beach landed in Vancouver on Monday.
Abdullah Kurdi, Alan’s father, said he attempted the trek across the Mediterranean – a stretch of water that has claimed thousands of lives since the height of the crisis in Syria – after his brother’s refugee application was denied.
And although the reunion was happy, thoughts of the family that didn’t make it to this country were never far from the surface.
Despite the pain it causes every time she’s confronted with her relatives’ deaths, Tima says she doesn’t want her nephew’s tragedy to be forgotten.
One by one, her nephews and nieces, her brother Mohammad and his wife Ghousoun, clung to Tima, buried their faces in the lining of her hood, and waved little Canadian flags. Immigration Minister John McCallum said last week the government will likely not meet its target of having 10,000 of them on Canadian soil by January 1.
His son, 14-year-old Shergo Kurdi, echoed his father’s sentiments, adding he was happy to be returning to school soon and starting a new life.
Tima Kurdi then thanked a long list of people for helping get her family to Canada. The three politicians, as well as MLA Peter Fassbender, were all at the airport. Kurdi, who plans to open a hair salon in Port Coquitlam, hopes Mohammad, a barber, will work there with her.
Mohammed’s family did, but Tima says Abdullah will remain in Kurdistan. Tomorrow we’re going to have our traditional… In the morning, she has planned a traditional Syrian breakfast. The horrific image of three-year-old Alan’s death became an iconic symbol of the plight of Syrian refugees and a major issue in the Canadian federal election.
“But we have Mohammed and his family here today”.
They were greeted by his sister and sponsor, Tima Kurdi, and a small crowd of well-wishers waving miniature Canadian flags.
“I tried to swim to the shore with the help of the lights but couldn’t find my wife and children once I was there”.

But the Kurdi family’s fortunes seem to be turning.
