On Thursday, the government announced that Canadian and Chinese companies signed 56 new commercial contracts and agreements worth $1.2 billion. Other Canadian products such as maple syrup and ice wine will also be available to Chinese consumers through the pavilion.

Last year, merchandise trade between Canada and China grew by 10.1 per cent to almost US$85.8 billion, accounting for 8.1 per cent of Canada’s total merchandise trade, the Canadian government’s statistics showed.

On Saturday, Trudeau will fly to Hangzhou, where he will meet with Jack Ma, the founder of e-commerce giant Alibaba.
