De Grasse took second in the fifth heat with a time of 9.99 (+0.3) to automatically advance to tomorrow’s semifinals tied for the seventh-fastest time. Brown’s semifinal heat also features the fastest qualifier Justin Gatlin of the U.S. De Grasse and Brown are running representing their native Canada. Before in Canadian sprinting we had that OK- just-to-be-here kind of mentality. But with 50 metres to go the Briton went past the tiring Canadian to win the race in 2:10.13 to solidify her victory with 6,669 points. Dunfee said it finally feels like the sport has a level playing field. It could allow the young Canadian to fly under the radar and “shock some people”.

Theisen-Eaton appeared to be struggling with pressure in a season that saw her arrive in China with the world’s top score this season in the heptathlon. The victor, Jessica Ennis-Hill won her second heptathlon title with a score of 6669.

The only time Bolt has failed to win gold in a sprint at a major championship since the 2008 Olympics was when he was disqualified for a false start in the heats of the 2011 world championships.

“I have no idea, I have no words”. I’ve learned over the years that when Justin Gatlin comes to a championship, he always shows up.

“I’m disappointed that there’s no shot at getting gold”.

Barber, meanwhile, easily cleared the required 5.70 metres to move on in the pole vault. “I was waiting to see who they were going to give it to, Bromell or me, both of us got it, I’m really happy for him”. “That’s been the goal from Day 1, to come out and find myself somewhere on the podium”.

President Bach watched London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah become World Champion for the fourth time after he beat out Kenyan duo Geoffrey Kamworor and Paul Tanui to win the men’s 10,000 metre final on Saturday night. Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor won silver, while Kenyan teammate Paul Kipngetch Tanui claimed the bronze.
