Fans booed the Canadiens alumni, but mostly good-naturedly, and the style of play was more reminiscent of a no-defense All-Star game than one of the bone-crunching battles the teams have waged through their history.

Although watching outdoor games is quite an enjoyable experience and one that I look forward to every year, the fun of the events has worn off for me somewhat, thanks in no small part to the Stadium Series and its numerous outdoor hockey games. Rask surrendered the first goal of the game just 74 seconds into the contest and Boston could never even the contest from there. At the end of the first period the Canadians outshot the Bruins 14-3.

Notes: It was Desharnais’ first goal in 18 games….

AROUND THE BOARDS: Boston coach Claude Julien, who took a skate with Pats’ coach Bill Belichick Thursday, was sporting a Bruins hoodie behind the bench.

Prior to the game, Condon had a special mask made for the Winter Classic and it paid homage to the Patriots and their four Super Bowl victories. Scoring chances? Laughable. Aside from a great glove save on Ryan Spooner as time ran out in the second, Needham native Mike Condon could have taken a nap in the crease and not missed much.

The biggest save of the game for Condon came with 1.3 seconds remaining in the second period. Boston winning in 2010 and the Washington Capitals winning in 2015 at Nationals Park were the only two times the home team has won.
