Canadiens top Bruins 5-1 at home of Patriots

David Desharnais opened the scoring for Montreal just 1:14 into the contest and the Canadiens rolled from there, beating Boston 5-1. The Bruins are wearing the uniforms from their inaugural season of 1924-25 (the first to feature a U.S.-based team in the NHL), the difference between what Boston wearing this afternoon and what they wore 90 years ago?

The Bruins lost a big game on Friday at Gillette Stadium.

The Canadiens made it 3-0 late in the period when Pacioretty, who later scored his 16th goal, batted the puck of the air toward Gallagher, who also knocked it out of the air for his first goal since November 20.

At some point, though, one imagines the National Hockey League will need to start getting even more creative, like bringing the game to neutral-site cities with appealing venues. “It’s a regular season game, and that’s all you have to do is to [move on]”, said Patrice Bergeron. Tomas Plekanec got the second assist on the play. Things aren’t going to get any easier right now.

The excitement of the big stage may have got to Boston. “I really don’t know what else to say”.

While Condon’s showing elicited praise, it was Montreal’s ability to keep Boston from sustaining any sort of attack that was the real story.

“Playing in front of him you feel he’s got your back and he certainly did that tonight with a huge performance”, Gallagher said. And I didn’t see anybody that wasn’t having any fun.

“There is nearly an insatiable appetite for these games”, Bettman said. “I just want to acknowledge the situation I’ve put my team in for being undisciplined and affecting the game for them, taking away from the excitement for the fans, being a part of this rivalry, taking that away from them and also for effecting this game for myself and putting myself in the situation to not be part of this”, Marchand said. “It just didn’t matter what we tried to do…we just couldn’t get it going”.

“There was an outdoor rink over on Route 2, and Belmont Hill had an outdoor rink, but most of my early hockey was at rinks in Somerville and Cambridge”, said O’Regan, now 54. “I think it’s a wonderful event, gives people a chance to be outdoors in the tens of thousands and to experience the game a little bit differently”.

Thanks Tuukka for featuring me on your mask today! I thought emotionally it was there for them, and it wasn’t for us. As if being field level wasn’t enough, I was one of the privileged few who got to spend an hour out on the ice. Instead, the B’s are now fourth in the division and No. 8 spot in the conference, with three teams – Pittsburgh, Ottawa and Tampa Bay – just two points behind them. That’s a lot of time to stew and dwell on their showing at Gillette. “Maybe the fact that we haven’t gotten the result that we wanted over the past month or so maybe was us kind of seeing it as an opportunity to start the new year off the right way”. Crosby is going to put up a couple games that might tease you, and he has.
