Canelo Alvarez Vows To Fight Gennady Golovkin (GGG) In Near Future
Canelo still holds The Ring magazine championship at middleweight, but Kazakhstan’s Golovkin is generally considered number one in the division, and one of the most feared fighters in the world.

Alvarez is one of the best combination punchers in the sport and showed it off with a attractive double right uppercut, counter left body shot that forced Smith to a squatting position with his gloves touching – a necessary break to catch his breath. Undefeated Smith (23-0-1 13 KO’s) defends his World Title against Mexican pound-for-pound star Canelo (47-1-1 33 KO’s) this Saturday (17th) live on BoxNation.
“I fear no one”, Canelo told Kellerman.
The boxing world thought Canelo Alvarez vs. Liam Smith was nothing more than a showcase for Alvarez to distract fans from talking about showdown between him and undisputed middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.
But where Smith did not fall short was in the heart, determination and bravery stakes as he also proved he had the ability to mix it with one of the best in the sport.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez gave Liam “Beefy” Smith the first loss of his career and took his belt, yet Liam Smith showed skills and heart, and this gained him a lot of fans.
“We made the offer and now it’s on him, the ball is in his court”. Smith couldn’t get up after the knockdown in the 9th, and the fight was stopped.
“A month ago, we offered him three or four times as much to make the fight”, he said when asked if he is being protected by his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
“We’re a team. I’m not going to blame my promoter or anyone else”.
“I’m not in a situation where I have nothing to lose in this fight”, Smith, 28, said during a recent conference call. When I turn up on Saturday and put the performance in that I know I have in me then you will realise that Liam Smith is a very very good fighter. “I am very disappointed”. If I waited a little longer and got more experience I would be able to fight a guy like that better. The venue just so happens to be Cowboys Stadium too, meaning the reception Canelo is due to receive will be a good look for the promotion.

Midway through the seventh round, Alvarez put together a combination, including a left to the body and a right hand to the side of the head, that dropped Smith near the corner. I didn’t come to make up numbers and fight in front of 50,000 people; I came to win but lost my title tonight.
