The two powerful punchers have been on a collision course since November, when Alvarez won his title from Miguel Cotto.
The fight was a showcase, as Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KO) looked fantastic, in defeating Smith (23-1-1, 13 KO) by knockout Saturday at the 2:27 of the ninth round to win the WBO junior middleweight title at AT&T Stadium in front 51,240 people.
Following his conquest of Smith, Alvarez called out middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin and accused him of refusing to accept a fight offer 3 times.
Golovkin responded on Instgram by accusing Alvarez of talking “nonsense”.
Alvarez said “I fear no man”.
Liverpudlian Smith is unbeaten in 24 contests and won the WBO belt when he defeated U.S. fighter John Thompson in Manchester last October. We offered GGG twice the money to fight.
“I was slow and I had no timing”, added the 28-year-old, who suffered a bad cut in training a month out from the fight and had been unable to spar in the run-up.
If Warren and Smith are dissatisfied with Alvarez avoiding the more comprehensive testing procedure, they’ve kept it quiet publicly. “As I said, we are a team and I fear no one”. Alvarez landed some vicious body shots early in the third, to control the round but Smith did land a few shots late in the round.

Flanked by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Alvarez was as light as 154 for the first time since he weighed 152 pounds for his lone career loss, a decision to Floyd Mayweather in their title unification fight in September 2013. An inch taller and a little stronger, Smith had never been knocked down. So you take that into consideration, it was a fantastic performance by him.
