Cannabis: Herb May Help Heal Bone Fractures : Health & Medicine
“After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future”, the scientist went on to comment on the outcome of this study on how marijuana influences bone-healing processes.

“We only respond to cannabis because we are built with intrinsic compounds and receptors that can also be activated by compounds in the cannabis plant”, Gabet said. The significant medical benefits of marijuana in alleviating symptoms of such diseases as Parkinson’s, cancer, and multiple sclerosis have only recently been reinvestigated. Even when CBD was isolated from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, the rats’ femurs healed in as little as eight weeks’ time. Itai Bab of Hebrew University’s Bone Laboratory discovered the connection between our bodies’ cannabinoid receptors and the stimulation of bone growth, which may be used for future research into the use of marijuana to treat not only broken bones but also osteoporosis and other skeletal diseases.
“The clinical potential of cannabinoid-related compounds is simply undeniable at this point”, lead researcher Dr. Gabet disclosed.
As stated by Gabet, the human body is equipped with a cannabinoid system that is involved with regulating both vital and non-vital systems. Even without the THC – the component of marijuana that makes you high – the cannabis appears to work.
The study, published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, tested two sets of rats. Even though a lot of works need to be done until the final therapies will be developed it is certain that the psychoactivity of cannabis can be used for clinical purposes, Dr. Gabet added. CBD is primarily an anti-inflammatory compound and has no psychotropic effects, leading the researchers to say that cannabis-based therapies can be developed without the negative side effects of the drug. Dr. Gabet reassures supporting their findings with other studies that have also shown CBD to be a safe agent instructing them to believe; they should chase this lead and undertake clinical trials to judge its usefulness in improving human fracture healing.

The study showed that CBD was effective in keeping bones strong during the healing process, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which helps new bone begin to materialize.
