Canon’s EOS M3 Mirrorless Camera Will Hit US Shores This October

Looking to give mirrorless another shot in the United States, Canon has announced that the EOS M3, previously only available in Europe and Japan, is making its appearance stateside this October. This new model boasts notable improvements over its predecessor, the EOS M, which didn’t see much success.

Following a decidedly ho-hum reception to its EOS M mirrorless interchangeable lens camera in 2012, Canon decided not to even release its follow-up, the M2, in the US. It also uses the same CMOS III AF system, which will be one of the biggest indicators of whether or not the company has made any progress on mirorrless cameras.

If you’re unfamiliar with the M3, the mirrorless camera has a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor (the size found in most entry-level DSLRs), Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, and 49-point hybrid phase-detection autofocus.

The EOS M3 camera offers photographers the flexibility to unleash their creativity through its compatibility with Canon EF-M lenses as well as a wide variety of Canon EF and EF-S lenses when used with the optional Mount Adapter EF-EOS M. Other compatible Canon accessories include EX-series Speedlite flash units, Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT, and Electronic Viewfinder EVF-DC1.

While Canon’s track record in regards to mirrorless cameras has not been stellar so far, the new EOS M3 could be the device to change that. The fact that it’s display supports touch, meanwhile, makes it easier to navigate and select various functions.

Starting early October, the Canon EOS M3, as well as three new EF-M lenses, will sell with the following retail prices.
