According to the Daily Mail, he said: “I had the final scan yesterday [Monday] and I saw my oncologist this morning”.

The two-time Oscar nominee revealed in June that he had been diagnosed with cancer but vowed to continue working and is heading to Northern Ireland this week to work on a new project.

Hurt added that he is reluctant to use the word “remission” even “if it’s true”, continuing: “It all looks great for the future – it’s fantastic”.

Hurt is known for his roles in The Elephant Man, Nineteen Eighty-Four and the Harry Potter films.

“I can’t say I worry about mortality, but it’s impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it”, he told The Radio Times.

“My oncologist is extremely optimistic, as indeed I am, so everything is going really well”.

John, who was knighted by the Queen for his glittering career in July, has been busy in recent months filming the new Tarzan with Samuel L Jackson and Margot Robbie.

Speaking at the Windsor Castle ceremony, he said that he’d not felt any side effects from his cancer treatment.

“It’s extraordinary, I haven’t lost weight or anything and I’m feeling good – it’s insane”.
