The Vancouver Canucks have acquired forward Brandon Sutter from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins pulled off a couple of important pieces of business on Tuesday, adding two forwards, a defenseman and a 2016 second-round pick.

Sutter has played almost 500 games over seven seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins, scoring a career high of 21 goals last season playing behind centres Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

Last year, Bonino racked up 15 goals and 24 assists in 75 games. He comes in with a cap hit of $3.3 million and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2015-16 season. Bonino, 27, makes $1.9 million, and the savings gave the Penguins the space they needed to sign Fehr, who is 6-4, 215.

“With the depth we have at forward, I guess there is a possibility that (Bonino) could move to the wing”, Rutherford said.

Where might the Penguins stand now that Brandon Sutter is out, and Eric Fehr and Nick Bonino are in? He was also a key part of the Caps penalty-kill unit.

“Brandon Sutter is a good two-way player”. “I think doing this move, it makes our team deeper and it gives us a better chance to compete”.

Benning believes the right-shot Sutter is a current and future franchise fit, and is working on a contract extension.

Fehr, 29, had spent nine of is 10 National Hockey League seasons with the Washington Capitals, who drafted him in the first round in 2003.

The departure of Clendening, who recently signed a new two-way contract with the Canucks, should solidify rookie Frank Corrado’s spot on the Vancouver defence.

“I think the West has gotten real fast”, Benning said.

That would mean possibly matching up against Ryan Getzlaf or Kesler on October. 12 at Anaheim, and Anze Kopitar or Jeff Carter the next night in Los Angeles. He appeared in 17 games with the Canucks, registering two assists.
