The United Kingdom joins 17 other countries that have been represented in the vessel, which is dominated by NASA astronauts and Russian cosmonauts.
At 2 p.m. EST, NASA TV will show the hatch being opened and the three new members stepping aboard the International Space Station.
British astronaut Tim Peake and his companions on the Principia space mission have emerged from the Soyuz capsule and joined their new co-workers on the International Space Station (ISS).
The Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft carrying three Expedition 46 members docked on Tuesday with the International Space Station (ISS), Russia’s space agency Roscosmos said.
Zero gravity was reached by the Soyuz spacecraft after nine minutes of travel. The Russian rocket will carry US astronaut Tim Kopra, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and British astronaut Tim Peake.

The experienced air pilot will become only the eighth Briton to enter the cosmos after Tuesday’s rocket launch, which is scheduled for around 1100 GMT.
At a press conference in Baikonur yesterday Major Peake said what he was looking forward to most was his first glimpse of Earth seen from space.
A message to Tim Peake.
Malenchenko is the undisputed veteran of the group, having flown into space a total of six times.
Among them will be a UK-designed test to check for problems suffered by astronauts – including visual complications and sickness – caused by increased brain pressure.
To celebrate today’s launch, schoolchildren in Britain aged 7-11 have been taking part in “The Astro Science Challenge” to perform experiments that complement those that Tim Peake will be performing during his mission.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh congratulated Major Peake on his arrival at the space station.
The trip to the ISS is expected to take about six hours and will dock at around 4:25am (AEST).

“We hope that Major Peake’s work on the Space Station will serve as an inspiration to a new generation of scientists and engineers”.
