‘Captain America: Civil War’ gives Disney fifth straight win
The box-office juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe has long since surpassed the total grosses of any other big-screen franchise in cinematic history, and it’s hitting another unprecedented landmark with the release of Captain America: Civil War yielding absolutely superhuman returns around the planet: the $10 billion mark. Leading the pack in this category is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which brought in $149 million, followed by Jurassic World which saw a second weekend intake of $106.6 million. It also stands as the second-highest grossing film of 2016, behind Disney’s “Zootopia”, which raked in $970 million from its run.

Looking ahead to next weekend, there’s no real competition for Civil War.
“Money Master” – a suspense drama starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts and directed by Jodie Foster – premiered in third place at 3,104 locations with 15 million dollars this weekend.
Captain America remained in front of The Jungle Book, the remake of the Disney classic about Mowgli and his animal friends, which took $17.8 million over the weekend for a total of $311.8 in five weeks.
The Darkness, starring Kevin Bacon as a dad dealing with the supernatural, was a true horror show, as it could only muster a $5.2 million opening and fourth-place finish. The only problem is that it’s not exactly representative of Civil War as a whole and gives Spider-Man a little too much of the spotlight when you consider how long he’s actually in the movie.
In regards to new films going wide this weekend, Money Monster did decently but couldn’t capitalize on things well with a $15 million take. As of today, it’s the sixth highest grossing superhero film of all time, and perhaps even more amazingly, it’s outgrossed a movie called “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” by nearly $100 million. The Marvel blockbuster debuted last weekend to a whopping $179 million.

Additionally, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War will still be showing in the theaters, pulling some fans away from the Apocalypse release.
