It takes place after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and pits Team Cap against Team Ironman as the world’s mightiest heroes clash after the government decides it should monitor superhero activity. One group is led by Captain America (Chris Evans); the other by Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). The most anticipated new arrivals are Black Panther (played with warmth and sincerity by Chadwick Boseman) and the newest incarnation of Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. Studios are now teaming up their biggest moneymakers – such as Captain America, Iron Man, Ant-Man, etc. – to create a new generation of action-hero movies. The online ticket retailer didn’t release any specifics, but said the Captain America sequel accounts for 90% of ticket sales for this weekend and earned a flawless 100 score from its “Fanticipation” movie buzz indicator. But stay with it, and keep patient, because it’s certainly worth it, and although we have all seen the pictures of which Avenger is on whose side (Cap or Stark), this explains why each ends up on the side that they pick.

Almost every other theater in Milwaukee will be showing “Captain America: Civil War” starting Thursday night. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley, who collaborated on the first two Captain America screenplays are back for a third go-round and generally nail it, but it is the Russo brothers who really seem to understand how to deliver the right balance of action and story that fans expect in a movie that is already an global smash.
Italy, Russia, China and Argentina all open next weekend – along with the United States – where expectations are sky-high for a launch that could approach US$200 million.
“Winter Soldier”, this one gets political in asking whether or not the Avengers should be regulated by an outside authority or be able to choose their battles on their own. It would be only the second solo film to do so – the first being Iron Man 3 in 2013.
