Rounding out the top five were The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Keanu, which grossed $3.6 million and $3.1 million, respectively.
It didn’t hurt that “Captain America: Civil War” sprang to domestic box office’s fifth-highest-grossing weekend in movie history when it opened in the USA last weekend. Given that the Avengers: Infinity War 2 part movie will have an enormous scale, including basically every Marvel superhero to date (whether the directors will include characters from TV shows, such as The Defenders still remains to be seen), it shouldn’t come as a surprise that some new characters will be taking part as well.
The fourth weekend of “The Jungle Book” finished second to “Captain America” with $21.9 million at 4,144 sites to lift its 24-day total to $285 million. It also seats it directly between two other Marvel films on the list, behind Avengers: Age of Ultron but ahead of Iron Man 3.
Captain America: Civil War, which cost $250m (£173m) to make, is the 13th title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Regarding Disney topping a billion, in addition to Civil War, the Zootopia movie and Jon Farvreau’s Jungle Book also added to the mix.

With its substantial opening, “Civil War” did not just kick off the summer movie season in a big way, but it set the table for a stellar year at the cinemas for Disney.
