‘Captain America’ continues to dominate the box office

So, expect Civil War to stay atop the box office until the weekend of May 27 when Alice Through the Looking Glass and X-Men: Apocalypse hit theaters. South Korea is second with $60.1 million, followed by the United Kingdom at $46.7 million, Mexico at $39.2 million and Brazil at $32.9 million.

Like last weekend, Civil War didn’t match the pace of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it is in a virtual tie with Iron Man 3 for the eighth biggest second weekend of all time. While it’s on the higher end of second weekend falls in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Disney and Marvel film is still performing phenomenally well. “Zootopia”, $2.8 million 7.

The U.S. box office’s new top five is rounded out by supernatural horror film The Darkness and director Garry Marshall’s Mother’s Day, which also features Roberts opposite Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis and Kate Hudson. In one weekend, the film has already recouped its modest $4 million budget, and is well on the road to turning a profit for Blumhouse Productions, Chapter One Films and EMU Creek Pictures, as well as distributors Blumhouse Tilt, High Top Releasing and Universal Pictures. That brings Captain America: Civil War’s domestic total to an estimated $306.6 million. The Jungle Book is still crushing, too, raking in another $15.2 million worldwide – and it hasn’t even been released yet in Korea and Japan, according to Box Office Mojo. This would give Disney its third $300+ million movie of 2016, after The Jungle Book passed that milestone this past weekend as well.
