The holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated across India on Tuesday with due solemnity and religious fervour. But, according to tradition, God stopped him and gave him a sheep to sacrifice instead of his son.
Bakrid is also called as Eid-al-Adha or Eid-ul-Zuha is a feast of sacrifice celebrated by Muslims all around the world with great honour and respect. The pilgrimage annually draws 2 million Muslims.
On behalf of the Department of State, I would like to wish all Muslims a happy and blessed Eid ul-Adha celebration.
Eid happens twice a year – once at the beginning of Ramadan and once at the end of Hajj, which marks Eid al-Adha.
This year, some countries are celebrating it on September 12 while some other will celebrate it on September 13.
Eid al-Adha is marked by prayers in the morning and usually followed by a celebratory meal.

In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah when the Muslims offer the pilgrimage of Hajj and lasts for three days. Thus have We made them subject to you that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you.
There are only a few people that know about the origin of the word Bakr-Eid, this hails from an Arabic word al-Baqara meaning “The Cow”.
