Several officials said groups of IS fighters were trying to slip through gaps in the Iraqi forces’ net around the city.
Coalition and local forces have inflicted a “recent string of defeats” on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve said today in Baghdad.
Backed by USA air power, the offensive also marks the Iraqi armed forces’ first major battle from which Shiite militias have been largely excluded, testing whether the military can go it alone. The US has been criticized for working with these militias, which are said to have a great deal of influence over the Iraqi central government in Baghdad. It said that 10 militants were killed, but did not indicate whether there were any casualities among Iraqi forces.
Noting the authenticity of the documents, Warren said: “The fighters in this order are directed to film their actions, distribute the videos, and to do all this in order to discredit both the ISF and the government of Iraq”.
The loss of Ramadi in May was a major setback for the Iraqi government and the army.
“It’s ferocious fight, it’s premature to say how long it will take but we can say victory will be achieved in a few days”, Numani said. Gen. Yehya Rasool, an Iraqi military spokesman. However, he said the large numbers of roadside bombs and snipers made the battle hard to predict.
However, several militants reportedly escaped the city as government forces approached. Military units crossed the Euphrates into the central districts using a bridge that was destroyed by the militants and repaired by army engineers. They took control of the Bakir neighborhood, according to Fatlawi.
A success against Islamic State in Ramadi, coupled with the visit to China, offers a much-needed boost to Mr. Abadi’s sagging political stature at home. The police commander, Brig.
Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus later said that part of the Turkish military contingent had been moved elsewhere and that the Iraqi government had welcomed Ankara’s move. US officials, concerned also by militant operations over the border in Syria, have expressed frustration at delays in seizing back the city.
On Monday, the defence ministry warned that the jihadists had prevented civilians leaving since leaflets warning of an assault were dropped over the city last month.
But their supply lines have gradually been severed and anti-terrorism forces retook a key southwestern neighbourhood earlier this month. Iraqi officials say they believe civilians will be able to get out, but coalition officials report that so far they have only witnessed small groups doing so.

Estimates of the number of civilians remaining in Ramadi vary widely. The strike is a reminder that the United States and its partners “continue to apply pressure to ISIL across the breadth and the depth of their so-called caliphate”, Warren said.
