State police are searching for a man charged with kidnapping his wife at gunpoint and threatening to harm her. Ewing, free on bond while awaiting trial on charges he abducted and beat his wife while holding her captive for almost two weeks earlier this summer, kidnapped her again Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, and is on the run, state police said.
Police say a Pennsylvania man free on bond while awaiting charges that he beat his wife and held her captive for almost two weeks this summer has now kidnapped her, and both are missing. The scene was tense when Channel 11 News arrived, but authorities began to clear the scene just before 11 p.m. Moments later, Tierne Ewing was confirmed dead. His 48-year-old wife, Tierne Ewing, was found shot to death in the same barn after state troopers surrounded it, ending a daylong manhunt Tuesday.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Kevin Ewing, 47, of 388 Blockhouse Run Road, West Finley, was pronounced brain dead at 5:30 p.m.at UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
A Pennsylvania woman whose abusive husband had recently been jailed for holding her hostage was found dead in a barn this week after he abducted her again.
According to court documents, on July 8, Mr. Ewing was arrested by North Strabane police on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, carrying a gun without a license, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and reckless endangerment.
Kevin Ewing had been out on bond and under home confinement on charges he beat his wife and abducted her from June 26 to July 8, 2016. There was no word about whether officers also had found her husband, Kevin.
Goodwin, Ewing’s lawyer, said Tierne Ewing had refused to testify at her husband’s preliminary hearing and had requested that a temporary restraining order be lifted, which a judge denied.
Ewing reportedly drove Tierne to the Chrome Federal Credit Union in Washington, and ordered her to take money out.
Ewing unexpectedly posted $100,000 bond on July 11, so a prosecutor asked a judge to put him back in jail citing an unspecified history of domestic abuse and past injuries to his wife, Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone said.

Tierne Ewing told investigators that Kevin allegedly pistol-whipped her, spit on her, tied her hands, branded her with a metal hot dog stick and locked her in a closet. She said she went down to see what was going on and saw that her son had a gun and was arguing with the victim. Sapida learned that no one was notified when the ankle bracelet was cut. There was no sign of Tierne Ewing or Kevin Ewing at the time.
