There’s also a scientist possessed by an ancient witch known as the Enchantress, whose split personality comes out whenever bad-ass black ops queen Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) taunts her.

As much as we (properly) complain that Hollywood has turned into a factory of pre-sold cartoon-based blockbusters without any original stories, you have to say: If that’s what you’re gonna do, then do it up right.
But as long as they kept giving me the banter between the characters, I ended up forgiving them.
Talk, talk, talk: so much talking! If only we got more screen time with him. Deadshot wants to prove that he’s a good dad! Or if they did, why did they lost it all? Katana (Karen Fukuhara) is a samurai avenging her dead husband!
Suicide Squad was marketed as a refreshing departure from the wholesomeness of Marvel and the misery of DC’s last two movies, starring a team of bad-to-the-bone villains who know how to have fun. I have no idea.
Remember Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?
We’ve got a sister and brother of extradimensional origin, and they’re generating a giant whirling CGI construct that is somehow endangering all life on earth by way of biomech laser blasts. And in each of the vignettes where a golden ticket is discovered, there, in the background, is a vaguely sinister man in a suit, whispering into their ears: Slugworth. We can tell he’s planning something. But, at least at first, it’s unclear what.
Waller should have been this film’s Slugworth.
Critics may have trashed Suicide Squad, but if you’re still in denial, here are some reviews that bravely and politely try to praise it.
Sadly, most (if not all) of the movie’s funniest moments have already been seen in the trailer, while the rest of the film tends to fluctuate wildly between trying to be a gritty, grounded action film and a fantastic spectacle layered with extravagant, digital-effects sequences.
Together with Australian killer Boomerang (Jai Courtney), arsonist Diablo (Jay Hernandez), skin disease-afflicted brute Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and escape artist Slipknot (Adam Beach), Deadshot and Quinn find themselves placed under the command of the military’s leading special ops warrior, Col. Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and compelled to do Waller’s bidding.
“This is not to say that it’s a completely awful movie-it is certainly not worse than X-Men: Apocalypse, Captain America: Civil War or, heaven knows, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice-but rather that its virtues and shortcomings are more systemic than specific”.
Now, granted, this would only fix the first 15 minutes or so of the film. Some comic-book fans will lap it up, but “Suicide Squad” is all sauce and no meat. It’s legitimately amusing, especially in the early going, with Ike Barinholtz playing a guard tormenting the Squad.
The film, which stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto as some notorious comic book bad guys, was arguably the most anticipated film of the summer. The only question is which movie fails to live up to expectations the most.
Back in March, reports began circulating that Warner Bros. had endeavored to reshoot significant portions of the film in order to inject more comedy into it – a response to the success of Deadpool that actually seemed to make sense for a project like Suicide Squad, which positioned itself as an edgier, looser adventure in the studio’s superhero sandbox.

“Similarly, [Viola] Davis brings her usual formidable presence and gravitas to this otherwise unstable affair, and she’s pretty much the only one on-screen who makes the film worth watching”. There’s an important tease leading in to Justice League.
