During the pursuit, at least one suspect fired several gunshots from the fleeing vehicle striking the police auto and the officer.

The police department has said it will hold the money in escrow and will give the money to Officer Harris directly or to an official fundraising account if one is established.

The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Police are investigating and searching for the suspect. The people inside the suspicious auto shot into the police vehicle and hurt one of the officers who ended in the nearest hospital.

Police also say Harris was released from a St. Louis hospital Tuesday afternoon.

According to authorities, the officer was responding to the sound of gunfire around 11:40 when they saw a tan vehicle speed off. But, he says there are people who have more information and there is an incentive for them to come forward. Back in May, local authorities searched the Shawnee National Forest for eight days to find Dracy Pendleton, a man accused of shooting a central IL police officer. Someone in the vehicle fired at the officers, hitting one.

Carbondale Police, the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and the SIU Department of Public Safety are helping with the investigation. The press release urges people to contact the cops if anyone has information about the incident. Cash rewards for information, which leads to an arrest, also are made anonymously, stated the Carbondale Police Department on its website.
