The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Cincinnati’s last 5 games when playing St. Louis.

Wacha overcame a rain delay of more than one hour before the game to pitch a gem and give a exhausted Cardinals’ bullpen a break. DeSclafani, who beat the Cardinals his last time out, struck out nine while allowing seven hits over his six innings. Trevor Rosenthal came in to save the game despite a three-run lead and Mike’s knowledge that the save statistic is arbitrary and didn’t have his best stuff either.

Tony Cruz snapped his 0-for-15 slump with an RBI single, and Kolten Wong singled home two more off Lorenzen (3-7) as the teams played through intermittent, sometimes heavy rain.

The Cardinals finish their three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds in a matinee at Great American Ball Park.

“They put some good at-bats together”, said Lorenzen, who threw 93 pitches.

The Cardinals are 0-6 in their last 6 during game 3 of a series and 10-2 in Wachas last 12 road starts. Joey Votto leads Cincy with 113 hits and 51 RBI while Todd Frazier and Jay Bruce have combined for 129 RBI.

The Nationals dropped two games behind the New York Mets in the NL East. Arizona has won nine of 13.

After permitting exclusively two hits and two runs in five-plus innings, Holmberg was completed for the night time. 385 in his previous seven video games. Garza retired the next seven batters and left with a 7-1 lead.

Caleb Joseph opened the 10th with his second hit of the game, a single against the fifth A’s pitcher, Arnold Leon. He went six innings, giving up six hits.

In both the third and fifth innings, Kinsler hit ground balls to the left side of the infield that looked like inning-ending double plays. Randal Grichuk (.292, 39 Rs, 13 HRs, 40 RBIs, 4 SBs) has been successful at the plate for the Cardinals, going 2 for 6 yesterday with one run, one home run, and two RBIs. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.

Texas starter Nick Martinez (7-6), the right-hander pitching on his 25th birthday, walked three and struck out one while throwing 86 pitches in a game which start with the temperature at 100 degrees. The Cardinals have a 43-13 record when outhitting opponents.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. Rollins followed with a double and Howie Kendrick hit a two-run double to make it 9-6. St. Louis ranks in the bottom half at 20th with 420.
