Cardinals hope WR Floyd will be back by season opener

The Cardinals starter dislocated three fingers on his left hand in a drill during practice on Wednesday and underwent surgery that night.

John Brown will take over for Floyd, and the second-year receiver had 48 catches for 696 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd (15) catches a pass against the San Francisco 49ers during the first half of an NFL football game in Santa Clara, Calif., Sunday, December 28, 2014.

Arians said that Floyd was injured when his fingers bent back while landing on a ball, something that the coach hasn’t seen in his 40 years in the game.

The official Cardinals website says Floyd’s timeline for recovery puts his status for the season opener in doubt. Palmer said that his knee has “no restrictions” and Arians said that Palmer has looked stronger this year in camp, according to AZCardinals.com. With a capable replacement in line for the one game Floyd might have to miss with dislocated fingers, the goals the Cardinals have for this season can absolutely remain in place. While this injury will derail Floyd’s quest for better consistency for a time, I don’t see Arizona missing a beat while he is out.

“You know, Mike, he’s got a real soft heart”, Fitzgerald said, joking with reporters. Boatright, who played at Southern Illinois Carbondale, appeared in one game last season for Dallas.
