For the St. Louis Cardinals, it was two losses in one.

For the Cincinnati Reds, it was a rare series win under the Gateway Arch.

John Lackey loves the mound at Busch Stadium since joining the St. Louis Cardinals last season, leading the Cardinals to 14-2 record in 16 starts there.

In losing a home series for just the third time this year, St. Louis (64-37) saw its National League Central lead over Pittsburgh slip to 4 1/2 games.

Bruce’s 17th home run moved him ahead of Barry Larkin into ninth in franchise history with 199 homers. Aroldis Chapman collected his 21st save in 22 opportunities.

Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday left Wednesday night’s game in the bottom of the first inning with a possible right quadriceps strain.
