Cardinals S Mathieu out for season with torn ACL
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians announced on Monday that defensive back Tyrann Mathieu suffered a torn ACL on Sunday night and will miss the remainder of the season.

Mathieu is a key part of the Cardinals’ defense. Mathieu has also injured his left knee previously, but that has no relation to his most recent injury.
Mathieu sustained the injury after intercepting quarterback Sam Bradford in the final minutes of Sunday night’s 40-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 23-year-old Mathieu, better known as “Honey Badger” during his days at LSU, was one of the top candidates for Comeback Player of the Year honors this season. Due to the long recovery time typically associated with ACL tears, the start of the 2016 season may be in question for him as well.
Arians said an MRI on Monday revealed the injury.
Arians has said he’s never been more proud of a draft pick than the one the Cardinals used to select Mathieu in the third round in 2013.
Arizona has already wrapped up the NFC West and is looking to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs.
After the game, Cardinals players were concerned but hopeful for Mathieu, as SB Nation’s Revenge of the Birds reports. Mathieu made five interceptions and 89 tackles this season for the Cardinals.

“We’ll see what roster moves we make, if we make any”, Arians said. Jefferson is listed as the backup to Mathieu on the depth chart.
