Cardinals scorch Seahawks, tighten grip on NFC West

Cliff Avril #56 of the Seattle Seahawks walks onto the field with a French flag in honor of the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris prior to the game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals at CenturyLink Field on November 15, 2015 in Seattle, Washington. Cardinals receiver Jaron Brown had a great fourth quarter. His touchdown pass of 14 yards to tight end Jermaine Gresham down a wide-open seam past Seattle’s safeties gave Arizona back the lead 32-29 with 8:41 left. That squad finished the season with nine wins and secured the second and final wild-card spot as the third-place finisher in the AFC West. With the Cardinals enjoying a three-game lead on the rest of the division, it is unlikely the NFC West produces more than one playoff team. “But it’s just a good win”.

As for the Seahawks, coming back from a 19-0 second-quarter deficit was impressive, but the same bugaboos that have plagued this team all year showed up at the worst possible times.

But the fight in the Cardinals wasn’t over as it seemed at that point. No worries, Josh Maur0 stepped in on the line and made a few plays.

Lewis was our offensive player to watch going into Sunday, thanks to the inconsistent play from Seattle’s offensive line that has become a recurring storyline this season.

Seattle have exchanged consecutive wins to successive misfortunes as they dropped their initial two amusements before winning two in succession, then lost two straight before beating the Niners and Dallas Cowboys.

Seattle responded after halftime and got the break it needed on the second play of the fourth quarter. Russell Wilson rushed for a score and threw for two others in that contest as Seattle amassed a franchise-record 596 yards.

“Got to be a lot cleaner against teams like that”, Seattle’s Russell Okung said. “They hurt us today”. He did everything that Seahawks fans have come to love about his game, namely finding ways to get open when Wilson improvises.

A year ago, Arizona was in command of the division at the midpoint of the season, only to crumble down the stretch after Palmer was lost to a season-ending knee injury. He took a third down carry down the left sidelines for 48-yards and a touchdown to give the Cardinals a 39-29 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Floyd beat the Seahawks over the top for each touchdown, no easy feat against a top-notch secondary, and Palmer laid the ball in perfectly. The offensive penalties kept Seattle facing long-yardage situations, while the defensive penalties kept Arizona’s drives alive. Last season his passer rating on those throws was 113.2, this year it is 89.3. Six of the third downs Seattle was unable to convert were 10 or more yards.

It looked tenuous in the fourth quarter, but ultimately Bruce Arians’ team did just that, handing the Seahawks their first-ever prime time home loss under Pete Carroll. Michael Floyd had two fantastic touchdown receptions. Seahawks take the lead 29-25 (two-point conversion failed). Lockette had surgery to stabilize his neck and will be in a brace as he recovers.

According to the Cardinals, Iupati had feeling in all extremities, and a CT scan and MRI exam were normal.

Asked if he expected to return to football next season, Lockette said, “I expect to be a Pro Bowler”.
