St. Louis started the scoring in the first as Matt Carpenter lofted the 11th leadoff homer of his career over the wall in right-center field for his 15th homer of the season.

LOUIS | Matt Carpenter and Jhonny Peralta homered to back up a second straight dominant start by Jaime Garcia as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 on Wednesday night.

St. Louis Cardinals Johnny Peralta hits milestoneWhile he may have not been aware he was close to the milestone, the significance of learning that he is one of only 11 shortstops to hit 200 home runs and only the 23rd Dominican-born player was not lost on Peralta.

DeSclafani was making his 12th start of the season after missing the first two months of the season with a strained left oblique.

The team said before Wednesday night’s game against the Reds that Adams would be evaluated in a day.

The movement of Anthony DeSclafani’s pitches can be his best weapon or his worst enemy.

“When I’m pitching my goal is to get quick outs and to get them to hit the ball on the ground and I was able to do that today”, Garcia said.

“I’m a guy who goes after guys and I got away from where I needed to be and I had some mechanical issues that I had to get rid of”, Garcia said. Or I just got behind in the count early.

“I know it’s really important to me”, he stated.

Even if he wasn’t at his best, DeSclafani was able to limit the damage, although he was quick to deflect any praise for that towards his teammate, pointing out a play made by second baseman Tony Renda to end the fifth.

“The first time I started to play baseball, I started at second base-believe it or not, but second base”, said Peralta. “The last couple of games my defense has been great and hopefully we can do that the rest of the way”. “Everyone else has been doing their part to help me do that as well”. “Commanding it is a big challenge and there’s days where he’s spot on and other days where it’s running a little bit more than usual, but all in all he really did compete well”.
