Cardinals Sign Veteran OLB Dwight Freeney Ahead Of Steelers Game
At Syracuse, he would go on to notch All-America honors his senior year and set NCAA, Big East and school single-season records with 17.5 sacks.

The Arizona Cardinals have reached an agreement on a one-year contract with veteran pass-rusher Dwight Freeney, according to a source.
Freeney 35, was signed by the Cardinals as a result of starting right outside linebacker Alex Okafor suffering a calf injury on Sunday.
Freeney passed a physical with the team earlier Monday.
Okafor was sent back to Arizona for tests and there was no word on the severity of his injury. Most of that productivity came during his 11-year career with the Colts, where he was a seven-time Pro Bowler and a three-time first-team All-Pro, being a major part of the Colts’ run of success.
He had discussions with the Baltimore Ravens after Terrell Suggs was injured, as well as with the New Orleans Saints.
The Arizona Cardinals entered Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions with a full roster of healthy players. “Now there’s an opportunity”.
Freeney will account for the absence of Okafor and backup linebacker Kenny Demens, who also left the team’s Week 5 game with a knee injury. He hasn’t had double digit sacks since his 10 in 2010.
Arizona’s total tackles (300) and sacks (8) this season do not crack the top 20 in the league through the first five games.

Freeney has been out of football since March, when he was cut by the Chargers after spending two seasons in San Diego.
